Important:
The
Conception will be departing at 10pm on
Thursday, July 29, 2010 from Santa Barbara Harbor.
The
"Conception"
Come join us for a
four-day live-aboard trip on the Conception and dive one of
the best places
that California has to offer, the Southern Channel
Islands! In Southern California the water is
warmer and the visibility is at its best!
The
Conception is one of
the three boats operated by Truth Aquatics of Santa
Barbara and is 81 feet long by 25 feet wide. The
Captains and crew are experts on diving in the
area and will take us to the very best dive spots
for any set of conditions or time of day. The Conception is
designed specifically for recreational diving and
includes many conveniences that will spoil you
while on this mini-vacation.
The
Conception can
accommodate up to 46 people maximum in 13 double
bunks and 20 single bunks. However; Diver
Dan's limits the maximum number of divers
to 35 divers to allow a very roomy and spacious
boat. Each bunk contains pillows, blankets,
curtains and reading lights. There are dressing
rooms located in the bunkroom.
Water temperatures in the
Southern Channel Islands suggest a full 7mm
wetsuit or dry suit. A dive computer is also
highly recommended. As far as air fills go,
the Conception fills to
3000psi so aluminum or low pressure steel tanks
are suggested.
Besides your normal diving
gear it is advised that the following personal
items be brought:
- Personal toiletries,
soap, shampoo, toothbrush, etc.
- Sunscreen, sunglasses
and a hat
- Motion sickness
medication if prone to seasickness (if not sure,
bring it)
- Clothing for both cold
and hot weather
- Rubber soled shoes or
rubber boots
- Towels and bathing suit
- Camera and extra film
and batteries
- Sleeping bag for extra
comfort (bunks are vinyl covered pads with
blanket and pillows provided).
The
Conception will
be departing at 10pm on Thursday, July 29,
2010 from Santa Barbara Harbor. You
will be able to board the boat after 7pm on
Tuesday evening, however in order to eliminate
the possibility of missing the departure time, we
recommend you board and sign the manifest no later
than 9pm. This will insure you enough time
to stow both your dive gear on deck and personal
belongings in your bunk prior to getting underway.
No roll is taken prior
to departure and it is everyone's responsibility
to be on board.
Please look for the "Welcome Aboard" pamphlets
(which will be laid out on the galley tables).
They describe where everything on the boat is
located. Also please look for the boat's manifest
and please print your name on it legibly.

Truth Aquatics Truth Aquatics has three
of the finest custom-built dive boats in the
world. Built from the ground up strictly as dive
boats by divers, you will appreciate their
appointments. Expect gourmet cuisine, with menus
including breakfast cooked to order, hot and cold
lunch items, hot hors d'oerves and dinners that
include steaks, chicken, and seafood, not to
mention the desserts. Meals are served round the
clock in their spacious galley dining areas and no
one goes hungry. Cooler space is provided for any
drinks you may want to bring or small ice chests
are welcomed. No illegal drugs are permitted on
board as zero tolerance is strictly enforced.
Many design features make
the Truth Aquatics fleet unique including
circulating mask rinse stations at the exits to a
submerged ramp and boarding step for easy boarding
after your dive. Large benches at the bow and
stern make suiting up easier while a special
warm-air room dries wet suits quickly between
dives. Dual air compressors allow rapid tank
refilling so there is never a wait for your next
dive.
For those who like to
fish, there are live game wells as well as deep
freezers to store your fresh caught game. Fish
& Game licenses are mandatory for any
collecting and these can obtained from Diver
Dan's or the Sea Landing office prior to
departure, or contact the Department of Fish &
Game. The Sea Landing Dive Center is located
within steps from the Truth Aquatic vessels for
convenient equipment rental.
Channel
Islands Diving in the kelp forests around
the Channel Islands is a unique experience for
divers more accustomed to tropical waters. Similar
to tropical waters, the waters are clear with
lavish flora and fauna representing every hue
imaginable, but unlike tropical diving giant kelp
offers another dimension to your dive. Diving in
kelp is similar to a walk in a lush forest of
trees with these plants growing to heights of more
than 120 feet. Giant kelp helps support an aquatic
ecosystem that provides domicile for over more
than 800 species of marine life.
A Channel Islands trip
offers you the opportunity to discover a variety
of underwater landscapes. Water visibility in
these waters can range from 40 to 100 feet and on
rare occasions sometimes even up to 150 feet.
There are untold opportunities for viewing and
photographing a panorama of underwater vistas.
Unlike the coral reefs of tropical waters, the
reefs in the Channel Islands are comprised of
varied types of rock structures.
Like coral reefs, the
cracks and crevices provide ideal living quarters
for many species. The rocks are overlaid with
brightly colored bouquets of anemones, starfish,
and garlands of hydrocoral, sponges, and sea fans.
Moray eels, octopus, abalone, rock scallops,
California spiny lobsters, and a host of others
inhabit rock fissures and crevices. Divers may
chance upon giant black sea bass weighing in at
500 pounds, or a halibut, lingcod, vermilion
rockfish, calico bass and more. Migrating gray
whales, blue whales, hump back whales, schools of
dolphins, seals and sea lions are familiar
sightings in the Channel Islands during crossings.
