Who is Diver's Alert Network?
Divers Alert Network (DAN) is a non-profit medical and research
organization dedicated to the safety and health of recreational scuba divers
and is
located at Duke University Medical Center. DAN is supported by
individual
divers and
by every
diver association
around the world.
Founded in 1980, DAN has served as a lifeline for the scuba industry by
operating diving's only 24-hour emergency hotline, a lifesaving service for
injured divers. Additionally, DAN operates a diving medical information line,
conducts vital diving medical research, and develops and provides a number of
educational programs for everyone from beginning divers to medical
professionals.
What is
the Diving Emergency Management Provider
(DEMP)
Program?
Often, when a diver is injured, there are several things happening: a diver
could be stung by a jellyfish and have an allergic reaction; a diver may panic
underwater, experience an air embolism and have a heart attack; or a diver may
suffer a puncture wound from wreck debris.
The DAN Diving Emergency Management Provider (DEMP) program is designed to
prepare divers to handle most complicated dive-related emergencies that arise,
prior to handling the injured diver over to professional care.
This
program
incorporates
four
programs
into one:
-
Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries
-
First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries
-
Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for Scuba Diving
-
Advanced Oxygen Provider for Scuba Diving
What about existing DAN training programs?
There are no new skills included in this program that aren't covered as part of
the existing DAN Training Programs. At the same time, nothing is left out of
the existing training programs. This program simply combines all of the skills
from the other courses into a single comprehensive package, eliminating any
redundancy and allowing divers to learn how to handle dive emergencies - from
stings to decompression illness - in one single session.

|
How much is it going to cost me?
The total training fee is $75.00 and the fee is broken down in order to
